Adventures in audio

In for a penny, in for a pound. So after some research I’ve now ordered a new microphone so I can record and release an audio version of Frankenstein A Life Beyond. Cool. Gulp. Yikes. The prospect of doing this is both a little intimidating and exciting. Fortunately thanks to bouncing around with my choice of major as an undergrad I do have a background with audio production, which is a huge help. Isn’t it strange how aspects of your past can come back into your life? For better or worse I’m also one of those people who like to do different voices all the time (imitations, goofy accents and the like). So in theory speaking as a narrator and various characters should be pretty straight forward. I’m also getting used to hearing my recorded voice more often thanks to the Hindsight is 20-20 podcast. However, this will be my first attempt at a project of this nature. I can’t help but wonder if, in the growing ranks of self-published authors, this type of independent initiative is becoming the new norm or if I’m way out on a limb with trying to produce an audio book? If you’ve ever undertaken such a project I’d love to hear more about your experiences and will keep you updated on mine as the process unfolds.
